Paraguay 1 - Uruguay 1

In an odd decision, both Paraguay-Uruguay and Chile-Peru were scheduled to kick off at the same time, a rare occurrence indeed for the CONMEBOL region that usually maximizes its television exposure. Uruguay visited Asuncion in a rematch of the 2011 Copa America final. Uruguay were given full respect by Paraguay, whose strategy was to create a defensive shell and hope for the odd counterattack. Uruguay were unable to break the defense down in the 0-0 first half.

Midway through the second period, Luis Suarez was able to beat two defenders and send in a pass that Diego Forlan (pictured, 10) was able to tap in for a deserved 1-0 lead for Uruguay. Paraguay never showed too much in attack, even after the deficit took form. However, a set piece in stoppage time allowed Paraguay to send folks forward, and a little bit of luck at the end of a loose ball scramble sent the ball into the Uruguayan net, giving Paraguay a 1-1 tie at home.
