El Salvador faced off with Suriname in the final match of FIFA World Cup qualifying for the day. The crowd at San Salvador was hoping to see El Salvador finish the first group stage with a perfect 6-0-0 record. In spite having already clinched the group title, El Salvador was using its strongest lineup, and it showed. El Salvador were granted too much time, too much space, and too many clear passing lanes on this night. Osael Romero scored the opener just beyond the half hour mark and La Selecta went into the break up 1-0.

Romero scooped up a loose ball in the box to slot home into an empty for his and the team's second goal. Just beyond the hour mark. Rafael Burgos finished one-on-one after a long through ball for the 3-0 lead, and he got a brace of his own six minutes later after deflecting a shot into the goal with his thigh. The 4-0 loss sends Suriname to a disappointing third-place finish in the group behind El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. El Salvador join Guatemala and Panama as the only perfect teams in the CONCACAF Second Round.

Panama 3 - Dominica 0

Panama played host to Dominica in Panama City in the final Group C match of the CONCACAF Second Round. Dominica gifted their hosts a one-nil lead with a lazy set of passes in their own third of the pitch leading to a turnover and goal when Panama swooped in and stole the ball. Panama were simply toying with their opponents when their second goal came. A nicely executed one-two-one passing sequence from forty yards out led to a two-on-one opportunity with a goalkeeper which Panama easily finished. The 2-0 score held until halftime thanks to three great saves by Dominica goalkeeper Glenson Prince.

In the second half, Panama should have had three more goals, but Prince smothered all the chances until six minutes remained in the game. Panama finally got their third goal to secure the win by a final score of 3-0, though Prince prevented what could easily have been an 8-0 scoreline. Dominica finish the qualifiers with four losses and no goals scored whereas Panama move onto round three.

Haiti 2 - Antigua and Barbuda 1; Curacao 6 - U.S. Virgin Islands 1

A disappointed Haiti went home to Port-au-Prince to play their nemeses Antigua and Barbuda. Within the first ten minutes of the game, Haiti found themselves down yet again to Antigua after Tamarley Thomas scored his sixth goal of the tournament. Antigua held the 1-0 lead into the second half.

Haiti finally showed some pride at the hour mark. Haiti scored two goals in six minutes to grab a 2-1 lead and some self-respect back. Kervens Belfort will go down as the man who scored the game-winner as Haiti held strong for the 2-1 victory to end their sour campaign on a high note.

Curacao welcomed U.S. Virgin Islands to Willemstad in search of their second consecutive victory in both teams' final 2014 qualifier. It took Curacao over half an hour to break the deadlock, but they grabbed two in a six-minute span. Goalkeeper Rugenio Josephia was sent off for a red card in minute 41 for the home side, leaving the U.S. Virgin Islands a man up and only two goals down heading into halftime.

The numerical disadvantage at first seemed to unnerve Curacao. Five minutes after the restart, U.S. Virgin Islands scored just their second goal of the group stage to get within 2-1. However, the visitors were unable to creep any closer. With seventeen minutes to go, Curacao found their mojo again. They scored four unanswered goals from that point on to end their campaign with a resounding 6-1 victory.

Canada 4 - St. Kitts and Nevis 0

In the Group D finale, Canada got to play a celebration match against St. Kitts and Nevis after having qualified for round three of qualifying four days ago. However, the crowd in Toronto surely wanted some of their doubts quieted after Canada's last two matches resulted in draws to unheralded Puerto Rico and St. Kitts. The cold weather appeared to freeze the St. Kitts team, though they had the first big chance of the match when Akil Grier fired off a post. Canada then began to flex their muscles. Olivier Occean (pictured, red #16) slid onto a wayward shot in the box to score Canada's opener. Soon thereafter, Canada's best player on the night Tosaint Ricketts drew a penalty kick. Dwayne de Rosario (pictured, red #14) converted the penalty kick to equal Canada's all-time scoring record with 19 international goals, six from the penalty spot. Canada scored from a header off a corner kick in stoppage time to end the first half up 3-0.

St. Kitts were unable to handle Canada on the night, so they sat back and defended in the second half. With two minutes to go, a hard de Rosario shot left a rebound for Ricketts to slide and kick in for the cap on a 4-0 win for Canada. Canada can feel good about themselves now as they move onto the the third round of qualifying next June.

Trinidad and Tobago 2 - Guyana 0

Trinidad and Tobago welcomed their conquerors into Port of Spain for their last hurrah. Trinidad were eliminated by Guyana on Friday, but they had the opportunity to pay them back at home and find a bit of solace. The fans did not show up due to their disappointment in the Soca Warriors' early elimination, so Guyana did not have to contend with the typical noise factor of Port of Spain. Trinidad nevertheless came out with the majority of the ideas, narrowly missing out on the opener on several occasions. The half ended 0-0.

In the second half, Trinidad showed some pride. In a match that lacked intensity, Trinidad's Kenwyne Jones (pictured, red) of Stoke City scored the opener, and Trinidad added the second six minutes later. All of about 400 or so fans got to celebrate Trinidad's 2-0 win, but Guyana will not be heartbroken by the result as they had already won the group and the right to participate in the next phase of North American qualifying.

Guatemala 4 - Grenada 1; Belize 2 - St. Vincent and the Grenadines 0

Play in Group E came to its conclusion today. Guatemala (pictured) were looking to complete the group stage with a perfect 6-0-0 record, and all that stood between them and that goal was a road game against Grenada in St. George's. The field was a wide stripe of mud down the middle of the pitch, and the penalty boxes were full of puddles from heavy rains. Grenada converted on a penalty kick with less than ten minutes until the half, and the 1-0 held into the break.

Guatemala were in serious danger of losing for the first time in the tournament. However, with thirteen minutes to go, Grenada completely unraveled. An embarrassing own goal by Michael Mark on a full swing shot the ball into their own net at full force, leveling the affair at 1-1. Guatemala took advantage of a stunned defense to score twice more in quick succession, their second goal coming just a minute after the own goal. As if the sudden loss were not enough, Mark knocked yet another ball into his own net to become the first player to score two own goals in the tournament. Guatemala win 4-1 to maintain their perfect record.

Belize, the first team to kick off their FIFA World Cup campaign, saw their final action of the tournament today in Kingstown as they faced St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Both teams figured with a probable Guatemala win in the other Group E outing, whoever won this match would end up in second place behind Guatemala. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first period, so the drama would be left late.

In the second period, Deon McCaulay once again proved hero for Belize. With fifteen minutes to go in the match, he put Belize ahead with the opener, his tenth goal of the tournament. Just three minutes later, McCaulay found himself at the penalty spot, from which he converted for a 2-0 lead for Belize. Belize held on for the 2-0 road victory, their fourth victory in eight qualifiers to go along with two draws and two tight losses to Guatemala. Belize will surely shoot up the rankings board after their performance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

With his two goals today, McCaulay becomes the first player to hit double-digit goals in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Although his tournament has now concluded, McCaulay scored an amazing eleven goals in his eight games, including the first goal of the tournament against Montserrat on his way to a hat trick in the opening match. Given the fact that the three weakest teams in Oceania will be eliminated before getting to play the likes of Fiji and Solomon Islands, there is a good chance that McCaulay will go down as the top scorer in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying when the final ball is kicked in November 2013.

Cayman Islands 1 - Dominican Republic 1

The Cayman Islands welcomed the Dominican Republic to George Town for each team's final 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The Dominican Republic were surely licking their chops for another chance to defeat the Cayman Islands after a 4-0 just three days before today's match. Four minutes before the half, the Dominican Republic grabbed a 1-0 lead, improving hopes for a fifth win in qualifying.

Midway through the second period, the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Dominican Republic. However, the Cayman Islands found an unexpected equalizer through what was just their second goal of the entire tournament, and the first in the run of play. The Cayman Islands were able to see the result through to the finish, and the 1-1 draw is just the third point that the Cayman Islands have earned in five FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns. Their last point came in a draw at Bermuda on 3 February 2008. With the draw, the Dominican Republic have placed themselves in position to finish an unexpected second in the group ahead of Suriname pending tomorrow's result. If Suriname are unable to defeat unbeaten and untied group leaders El Salvador, the Dominican Republic will have their silver medal.

Bermuda 2 - Barbados 1

Bermuda hosted Barbados in the same stadium in Hamilton as three nights before, though this time Barbados were the designated home team. Bermuda welcomed back Nahki Wells, who had flown in from England between games after scoring a winner in an FA Cup match over the weekend. Wells looked no worse for the wear and got the first shot of the match, which went wide. Both sides had one minor chance in the first half after that shot, but neither team could prevent a 0-0 halftime score.

It took less than a minute for Wells to fire Bermuda into a 1-0 lead in the second half, his shot coming from 25 yards out. Captain Khano Smith (pictured, red #18) brought victory closer with a penalty kick conversion for a 2-0 lead after the Barbados goalkeeper brought down Antwan Russell in the box. Barbados scored a last gasp consolation goal in stoppage time, but it was not enough to prevent their sixth loss from six matches. Bermuda, with tonight's 2-1 win, end their campaign with 10 points earned in their four home matches. That point total would result in a second-place finish in the group should Guyana defeat Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow.

Puerto Rico 3 - St. Lucia 0

Puerto Rico hosted St. Lucia for the second time in four days, though this time the scene shifted to Mayaguez. Hector Ramos of the Puerto Rico Islanders club team continued his hot streak against St. Lucia. After scoring a brace for the Blue Hurricane last Friday, Ramos added today's opener at the same time in the first half as he had scored in the previous match. Ramos's goal accounted for all the scoring in a 1-0 first half.

Puerto Rico were made to sweat for the majority of the second half as they were unable to pull ahead by a two-goal margin. However, with four minutes left in the match, Ramos scored his second consecutive brace. In the shock of realizing they were doomed to lose, St. Lucia conceded a third goal two minutes later. Puerto Rico finish their 2014 FIFA World Cup with this 3-0 home victory over last-place St. Lucia, who can still take pride in having advanced over Aruba via the first penalty kick shootout of the tournament in round one. With consecutive wins, Puerto Rico find themselves in position to finish second place in Group D pending the result of the St. Kitts and Nevis match tomorrow. So long as St. Kitts do not win in Canada, Puerto Rico are second place.

Belize welcomed St. Vincent and the Grenadines into rainy Belmopan. St. Vincent gave their hosts an unexpected housewarming gift in the form of an early goal, but goal-scoring demon Deon McCaulay equalized within three minutes for the home side. The half ended at 1-1.

The second did not see any further scoring and the teams ended up tying the match at one goal apiece. Belize's campaign has hit a devastating rut after their opening group win at Grenada while St. Vincent are but one positive result away from an unexpected second place finish in the group. Shommal Trimmingham was given his marching orders for a second yellow card with two minutes left in the match, so St. Vincent will be without his services for their final match against Belize.

Guatemala took on Grenada in the nightcap of today's qualifiers. Grenada knew they were in for a long night, even against a second-choice Guatemala squad when Freddy Garcia scored in the very first minute for the home side. Garcia added a second at the half hour mark, and midfielder Angelo Padilla scored his first international goal in his first international appearance at the tail end of the first half. Guatemala lead 3-0 at the break.

Los Chapines failed to add to their lead in the second period, but they did maintain their clean sheet and look well prepared for round three which commences next June. The final score on the day is Guatemala 3, Grenada 0. The teams play their group finale on Tuesday.

Nicaragua played host to Dominica in Managua. A win for the hosts would secure second place in the group. Nicaragua dominated possession and the creativity on the pitch tonight, but no goals were to be found either way in the scoreless first half.

Nicaragua kept up their attacking spirits and eventually found a goal through Raul Leguias, a man who had scored against Dominica in the first meeting between the two teams. Nicaragua never gave Dominica any opportunities to equalize, and Nicaragua finish their campaign with a 1-0 home victory.

St. Kitts had the only chance of the scoreless first half.

As St. Kitts pressed for the win which they needed to avoid elimination, holes opened up on the counterattack for Canada, and the second half was much more entertaining. Akil Byron made a one-on-one save to deny a goal for Canada, leaving the game's best chance begging. The final score of 0-0 eliminates St. Kitts from the 2014 FIFA World Cup as Canada advance to Group Three of the CONCACAF Third Round. Canada join Panama in that phase as the two teams move on to meet Honduras and Cuba.

Puerto Rico, buoyed by solid performances so far in this group including a road draw to Canada, faced St. Lucia at home in Bayamon, though the match was designated as a home match for St. Lucia. Puerto Rico were looking to take second place in the group over St. Kitts with good performances against St. Lucia this week. In the first half, Puerto Rico scored twice in the first fifteen minutes and made the 2-0 lead hold up through halftime.

Just in case St. Lucia had designs on a comeback, Puerto Rico scored their third one minute into the half. A goal seven minutes later sealed the win for Puerto Rico. Both teams lost a man to a red card in the 81st minute with Puerto Rico losing Richard Martinez and St. Lucia losing Kevin Edward. Puerto Rico are pleased by the final score of 4-0. The two teams meet again in Puerto Rico on Monday.

Bermuda, fresh off a home win versus Trinidad and Tobago and a home draw against Guyana, welcomed Barbados to the fortress at Hamilton. It was Barbados, however, who snatched a surprise early lead after just seven minutes of play. This marked Barbados' first goal of qualifying. However, in the 25th minute, Barbados goalkeeper Jason Boxhill was sent off for a red card, leaving his side down to ten men, and after a converted penalty kick, tied on the scoreboard with the hosts. The game was 1-1 at the half.

Bermuda continued to push for a winner in the second half with their man advantage, though they made an unorthodox goalkeeper substitution which allowed 16-year-old Dale Eve to make his debut. The breakthrough goal for Bermuda came within five minutes of the restart. After having secured the 2-1, Bermuda saw the game out by the final scoreline for their fifth, sixth, and seventh points from their three home matches in the tournament.

The Golden Jaguars of Guyana welcomed Trinidad and Tobago to Georgetown needing a win to eliminate the Soca Warriors and advance into the next phase of qualifying. Ricky Shakes, scorer of the first goal for Guyana, made one appearance for the Trinidad national team in 2006 before switching allegiance to Guyana in 2010. Shakes took a corner kick and smashed it home of a volley ten minutes into the match. Guyana came closer to adding a second before the break than Trinidad did to equalizing, but the halftime scoreboard read 1-0 Jaguars.

With under ten minutes to go in the match, Leon Cort latched onto a long pass, shook off the Trinidad goal, and slotted home into an open net for a 2-0 advantage and a spot in the next phase for Guyana. A stoppage time goal scored by Trinidad did not dampen the celebration, and the 2-1 victory is the most important in the history of Guyanese football. Guyana advance to CONCACAF Third Round Group Two alongside El Salvador, where they will face Mexico and Costa Rica.

They held their opponents scoreless for a half for the first time in round two of qualifying, and the 3-0 final scoreline will amount to smallest margin of defeat for the Virgin Islanders in the group stage. Curacao notch their first victory.

Antigua and Barbuda welcomed Haiti into North Sound for the biggest match in the history of Antiguan football. With a win, Antigua would win the group and eliminate Haiti. With anything less, Antigua would be forced to get a result in Haiti on Tuesday. The first half saw no goals.

The second half saw history. Both teams were perhaps somewhat unwilling to go forward: Haiti for willingness to take a draw and play for the win at home, Antigua for fear of being beaten on a counterattack. Kerry Skepple was subbed onto the pitch for Antigua and became the hero of Antiguan football when he scored the goal eight minutes from time that secured Antigua the 1-0 win and their spot in the next round. Antigua now advance to CONCACAF Third Round Group One along with Guatemala, where they will play the United States of America and Jamaica. After five straight wins to open the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Antigua will be looking for further glory come next June.

San Cristobal was hosting its fourth and final 2014 qualifying match today, and it ended up being a memorable one for the home side. The Dominican Republic scored two first half goals, including an opener from Inoel Navarro (pictured, blue), to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

In the second period, the Dominican Republic did not let up. Two more goals poured in, and the hosts ended up winning 4-0. After today's match, the Dominican Republic have a record of four wins, one draw, and two losses in their seven qualifiers to date, and a win in Cayman Islands on Sunday will see them finish second in Group A.

El Salvador made the trip to South America to face Suriname in Paramaribo. Suriname had to win both home and away against El Salvador to advance to the next phase; El Salvador only needed a point to move on. Mark Blanco wanted to make sure that the final game would be only a formality for El Salvador. Blanco scored the first goal of the match in a half completely dominated by El Salvador, and the Cuscatlecos led 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, El Salvador continued to dominate the match. Blanco added his second goal, and El Salvador iced the game with a third with less than a quarter hour left. Suriname scored a consolation goal, but it was nowhere close to enough to save their campaign. El Salvador win 3-1 to win the group and advance to CONCACAF Third Round Group Two.

Match Schedule: November 2011

November marks the start of qualifying for both Africa and Oceania, meaning that only Europe will have yet to start its qualifying campaign. The Third Round in Asia goes through Matchdays Four and Five. The CONCACAF Second Round draws to a close this month. CONMEBOL will witness Matchdays Three and Four of its eighteen-matchday marathon. This month is guaranteed to provide four eliminations in North America, three in Oceania, and a whopping twelve in Africa. A few Asian teams are likely to fall by the wayside as well.

Grenada 1 - St. Vincent and the Grenadines 1

Grenada hosted St. Vincent and the Grenadines in St. George's in a match that both teams needed to win in order to remain alive in the race for Brasil 2014. A draw would ensure Guatemala the Group E title and thereby eliminate both the Spice Boyz and the visiting Vincy Heat. Neither side were able to step up and grab a first-half lead as the first forty-five minutes were scorless.

St. Vincent decided just beyond the hour mark that they wanted to continue onto Matchday Five with a chance to qualify, so they found the opener for a 1-0 lead. Grenada knew that they were up against the wall at this point. Unfortunately for them, their equalizer came in second half stoppage time through Clive Murray, the only Grenada player ever to have scored in a CONCACAF Gold Cup match. The final whistle sounded upon the match shortly after Murray's goal. With the 1-1 draw, both teams have been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup and Guatemala advance to Group One of the CONCACAF Third Round as Group E winners.

Dominican Republic 3 - Suriname 1; El Salvador 4 - Cayman Islands 0

Suriname, ahead of their two-game finale against El Salvador for the group crown, played the Dominican Republic at home in Paramaribo. Jonathan Faña made sure the visit was a pleasant one for the Dominicans. He continued his stellar form in the qualifiers by beating two defenders and the goalkeeper for the opener before the match was even ten minutes old. The first half was back and forth, but both defenses held for a 1-0 halftime score in favor of the visitors.

In the second half, Erick Ozuna maintained his great form as well, scoring a brace for the Dominican Republic, giving Ozuna four goal in Group A play. The Dominican Republic were up 3-0 with just fifteen minutes left in the match. Suriname got one back with ten minutes left, but it was not enough to avoid a 3-1 home loss.

El Salvador welcomed already eliminated Cayman Islands to rainy San Salvador. Finally, El Salvador put on its first impressive display in qualifying. It was worth the hour and a half delay for the rain to finish coming down too hard for soccer to be played. El Salvador took advantage of their experience on wet fields with two goals in the first fifteen minutes from their defenders. A midfielder added a third right before stoppage team, giving El Salvador a 3-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw more dominant play by El Salvador. Nothing came of it until a penalty kick was converted with two minutes remaining to give El Salvador a resounding 4-0 win. El Salvador need only one point in their two matches against Suriname to advance to the CONCACAF Third Round and join Mexico and Costa Rica in Group Two.

Guatemala 3 - Belize 1

Guatemala welcomed neighbors Belize to rainy Guatemala City. The rain kept falling all match long, which made for a sloppy pitch. A Guatemalan was brought down in the penalty area five minutes into the match by Harrison Tasher (pictured, navy), allowing for a conversion from the penalty spot for 1-0. Belize's Dalton Eiley had to substituted for after he suffered an injury in minute 22. Deon McCaulay then scored his seventh goal of the tournament, and his second against Guatemala, just beyond the half hour mark, giving Belize an equalizer against the run of play that made the halftime scoreboard read 1-1.

Midway through the second half, a ball that deflected off a Guatemala attacker and the Belize goalkeeper bounced around in the box before the one oncoming Guatemala player beat three Belize players to the ball for a tap in that gave the home side a 2-1 lead. First-half substitute Everal Trapp was shown red in minute 76 for bringing a Guatemala player down in the box, leaving Belize a man short as they fought to stay alive in the tournament. Carlos "El Pescadito" Ruiz (pictured, white) converted the kick for the 3-1 advantage. Guatemala would win the match by the same scoreline. Belize are eliminated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup with two games left on their schedule, having lost three straight matches after opening with three wins.

Panama 5 - Nicaragua 1

Panama faced off against fellow UNCAF team Nicaragua in the rain of Panama City looking to clinch their spot in the CONCACAF Third Round with a victory. Luis Tejada (pictured, red) of Panama had a 20th minute penalty kick blocked by goalkeeper Denis Espinoza, and the ensuing rebound was blasted off the crossbar, keeping the score knotted at zero. Tejada made amends for his miss with a goal nine minutes later. The score at the half was Panama 1, Nicaragua 0.

In the second half, La Marea Roja took over. Four minutes even, Nicaragua committed the unforgivable sin of allowing a goal off a long throw-in when Blas Perez rose up to head home the second goal. Panama had at least ten chances on goal over the course of the second half, and at one point held a 5-0 lead after Perez completed his hat trick. La Marea Roja are the first side to win their group in the CONCACAF Second Round, which means that Panama now join Honduras and Cuba in CONCACAF Group Three.
