Sierra Leone 2 - Cape Verde 1; Tunisia 3 - Equatorial Guinea 1

Sierra Leone opened up Group B play today at home to Cape Verde in Freetown.  Sierra Leone have been a team on the rise in thepast four years, and they look ready to make a push to qualify for a major tournament.  Mo Kamara waited ten minutes for a chance to take a corner kick, and what a kick it is!  He scored an Olympic goal straight off the corner kick to spot his side a 1-0 lead over the Blue Sharks.  One quarter hour later, and it was 2-0 Sierra Leone.

In the second period of play, the Blue Sharks came to play.  They attacked desperately, and they appeared to have their first goal four minutes from time, but Ze Luis's effort was ruled back for a foul.  Luis eventually scored deep into stoppage time for what amounted to a consolation goal.  Sierra Leone win 2-1.

Equatorial Guinea paid a visit to group favorites Tunisia.  Tunisia's Carthage Eagles were dominant throughout the first period, but Equatorial Guinea did apply pressure often in the hopes of drawing a mistake, which they did with just over ten minutes left in the half.  Randy scored on a deflected shot to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Carthage Eagles continued in the ascendancy.  Hamdi Harbaoui (pictured, white) was substituted onto the pitch before the first whistle blew, and he changed the complexion of the match.  It took Harbaoui six minutes to record an assist and eight to record a goal, pushing Tunisia into a 2-1 lead.  A third Tunisian goal came with two minutes of the final whistle, and the hosts win the affair 3-1 over Equatorial Guinea to take the lead in Group B after one matchday.
