Europe has been awarded thirteen spots at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brasil. Nine spots have already been claimed. The final four spots are up for grabs in the UEFA Playoffs to take place in November 2013. Eight teams have advanced to the playoffs round, and they will learn their playoff fates this Monday, 21 October 2013, at the draw ceremony in Zurich.
Portugal, Croatia, and Greece have dropped into the playoffs despite being top seeds in their qualifying groups. France and Sweden are where they were expected to be as second seeds in their groups. Ukraine survived as a third seed, Romania join as a fourth seed, and Iceland are the miracle team, advancing this far as a sixth seed (the lowest seeding).
The four highest ranked teams by the FIFA rankings have been placed into Pot 1. The other four teams have been placed into Pot 2. One team from each pot will be drawn into each of four home-and-away aggregate-goals series. The pot allocations are shown below.
