Cape Verde docked points for ineligible player

Cape Verde become the seventh African team sanctioned for fielding ineligible players in a qualifying match during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.  Cape Verde forfeit their 2-0 road victory over Tunisia on 7 September 2013.  Fernando Varela had not yet fully served his full four-match suspension for aggressive behavior toward an official.  The match has been awarded as a 3-0 victory to Tunisia.  This reverse of the result means that Tunisia have been given new life in the chase for Brasil 2014, as the original result had eliminated them.  Cape Verde, on the other hand, have now been eliminated whereas with the original result they had qualified to the CAF Third Round as Group B winner.
