At the start of the second period, Uruguay nearly made it 2-0, but Vega made a double save, first on a Diego Lugano header and then on rebounded shot from Edinson Cavani (pictured, blue). Venezuela had many chances to equalize, but none were taken until a cross from team captain Juan Arango found the head of Salomon Rondon. Rondon had earlier miss a snap header from an Arango cross by centimeters, but this time Rondon's shot took a slight deflection off Uruguay's Diego Godin, and the match was levelled at one goal a piece. The match would end that way, so the 1-1 draw means that Uruguay remain the only undefeated team in South American qualifying for Brasil 2014. Venezuela will be without the key to La Vinotinto's midfield, holding midfielder Tomas Rincon (pictured, #8), for their next match at home to Chile due to accumulation of yellow cards after Rincon picked up his second of the tournament today. Lugano misses Uruguay's next match at home to Peru due to yellow card suspension.
